Customer Reviews:- Does what it is supposed to do
I bought this vacuum because I have mostly hardwood floors and 2 cats. It works great, is very light and easy to use. . I like that it is bagless but the extension cord should be longer....more info - A good little machine
This cute little sucker is easy to use, has good suction and is much easier to use & less clunky than past cannister vacs I've owned and the retractible cord is a nice feature. It requires very little storage space.
The tool caddy on the wand is useless.. the head on the bare floor tool has a nice flexibility for shoving under beds & furniture but it might scuff some floors (mine are old and any new scuffs wouldn't be noticed) I hear abrasion more than see any. A plusher dusting brush would be nice but this one is useable. Chances are, you might have a better one from a previous machine that'll fit.
I don't find the hepa filter difficult to clean and it's certainly worth the bother to save inhaling fine particles or finding fine dust settling after using the machine. It did a great job sucking up animal fluff, dander & pollen. I didn't realize how much fine dust I had in my house till I found flour-like grey powder in that filter. I'm glad not to be breathing it or wiping surfaces w/a dustcloth as often.
I use an upright on my carpet but wanted a handy cannister to do the periferal areas and uncarpeted bedrooms. This little cutie fits my needs perfectly.
It'll handle small accent rugs okay, but if your world is mostly plushly carpeted, you might want something else. I'm pleased with this vacuum cleaner and Amazon's price was a bargain.. much lower than "sale" prices in my area and shipping was included! ...more info - very powerful, light; some flaws; good value overall
this was bought as an accessory vacuum for carpeted stairs, to supplement other vacuums for the rest of the house.
pros:
1. this thing is very POWERFUL.
2. it is light, but well-built and high quality worksmanship.
3. it is great on uncarpeted floors (so are others).
4. it is the perfect balance b/t size and suction power for carpeted stairs. cordless vacuums are great in theory on stairs, but too weak for carpeted stairs.
5. the canister and filter are a breeze to remove and clean. way better than dealing w/ bags.
6. overall, very good value for money.
cons:
1. the main floor attachments are poorly mobile on flat, plush carpet. the wheels are too small, so it is very tough and clumsy to push FORWARD on carpet. when pulling TOWARDS you on carpet, it is fine. you lose some suctioning power by increasing mobility, but this could be a problem for some users. if POWER and deep cleaning is more important, then you might prefer this, but it is certainly less convenient. in the end, you have a very clean carpet, but it takes more work.
2. the various handles are great for the floor. on stairs, it would be great to have a nice big, generous handle on top when the main section is upright (like a Miele). there is a little finger/hand hole in the grey section of the main compartment. however, it faces "the wrong way" when you are on the stairs. you have to twist your wrist to use that hole. practically speaking, you end up grabbing the thing by the hose or base of the hose. the vac is light, so you could probably get away w/ this, but in the long run, i would fear that this might break...
3. the dusting attachment (brush) is tiny. it is barely bigger than the hose diameter. it practically looks like it was put in there as a joke. this adds to the number of times you have to go across a surface in order to clean it. they don't have/sell bigger accessory brushes. fortunately i had a spare brush from an old vacuum (different brand) that happened to fit. a brush is the best attachment for carpeted stairs.
4. it would be nice if the power slide control sort of clicked into the highest power setting. it has low friction, so it is easy to inadvertently shut off power while cleaning aggressively.

We have a smaller home with hardwood and slate floors ( that I installed myself ). So wanted a flexible and easy to use machine. the DDV (DirtDevilVision) hits the spot in most areas. We love the continuously adjustable speed making it easy to vacuum draperies, throw carpets etc without sucking them up!. The speed adjustment is right under your thumb and easy to adjust. The sound level is also pleasantly the quietest of any vacuum we've used. Its easy to move about and the auto-rewind-power cord is just perfect. Our only complaints are a the dirt container is a bit small and messy to empty completely and b. the accessory clip is on the wand! What WERE they THINKING - accessories are hard to fit to it and constantly catching on items, so we quickly abandoned use of THAT feature. Else its a nice machine for the money. Caution: if you really need suction, go get your shop vac :-)....more info - Great vac!
I just received this vacuum today and instantly vacuumed the house in less than 30 minutes. Very light-weight, attractive and smart.
I didn't even open the manual guide and figured all the features out right away. The things I really like is the swivel vacuum head which absolutely fits and turns into every corner and angle, the ease of emptying the canister, the power slider at your fingertip, retractable power cord and the extendable handle that has many different slots for different heights.
Overall, excellent vacuum for $130!!!...more info - Mine was BROKEN
I wish that I could give this an accurate rating and review, but when I recieved mine it would not start and dirt devil support was no help to me whatsoever, so it was sent back for a refund and I bought a different vacuum. ...more info - Great canister vac
The Dirt Devil Vision Turbo moves smoothly over both carpet and pergo flooring (though the turbo head is much better for carpeting), is convenient to store, has a long cord that easily extends and retracts from the base of the vacuum, and is easy to empty. I also love being able to control the power of the vacuum at the top of the wand vs. having to go back to the base and push a button or flip a switch to turn it on or off or change the settings. Overall, I'm impressed with the quality and price of this vacuum....more info - Great product for the price
Great vacuum for the price. I wanted a bagless canister vacuum with some power. The product cleans my hardwood floors and my area rugs fine. My husband and I love the automatic cord rewind and the extra long power cord. Only cons are the design for the extendible wand and the motor has a "ring" when it is turned on. The junction between the hose and handle to the wand and the base for the attachments located on the wand hinder the vacuum to maneuver in "harder-to-reach" areas. I solve this obstacle by moving the furniture around a bit. The ringing sound of the vacuum when the vacuum is on is a bit annoying but that might be just that particular vaccuum. I tolerate the sound because the vacuum does such an efficient job that I am finished in hardly no time. The price and overall quality definitely outweigh the cons for me....more info - Super vacuum for hard floors!
We just got rid of all our carpets and put laminate and ceramic flooring. Most vacuum cleaners have a power brush which is useless on a hard floor surface. The Dirt Devil is perfect for our purposes. It is light, fairly quiet and the hepa filter is super. Recommend this product....more info - great for carpetless floors
The dirt devil non-turbo attachment head works great on my wood and slate floors. The turbo head is probably good with carpet(though my house is carpetless) The best features are the telescoping wand and retractable cord. Light weight enough to carry rather than roll when in tight spots. Variable suction power is a nice feature too. And it didn't even seem to bother my cat.(Anyone know how to get HIM to vacuum up his own cat hair?) ...more info - Buy It!
This is my first canister type vacuum cleaner and I'm completely impressed. The vacuum cleaners that I've owned in the past had less suction power and were much louder. This one purrs at the slide of the handle and has great suction power for fine animal hair. The retractable cord is convenient and the slide on the handle for the suction control is great as well.
The only thing that I can think of that might be off is that it's advertised as lightweight and I really didn't feel that it was but to be fair this is my first canister vacuum cleaner so I really have no comparison to go by. I ordered this mainly so that I can vacuum the stair cases because my old vacuum cleaner doesn't have any attachments. This vacuum cleaner comes with an abundance of attachments and so far my favorite one is the turbo floor attachment. I also was pleased that I was able to get a vacuum that has the HEPA filter. The dust cup is easy to empty and holds a decent amount of dust.
Overall, I rate this vacuum cleaner five stars because it exceeded my expectations for the price that I paid. ...more info - A great vacuum for wood floors
This vacuum is everything that I was expecting. I agree with the other reviews that the tool attachment area is useless so I just keep the tools in the closet. I also agree that it does not work well on carpet, but I only have two small area rugs so that isn't a concern for me. With those two negatives said, I have nothing else bad to say about it. It sucks up all the hair (we have a keeshond with long, thick hair, and two long haired cats), and I have found the dirt container to be larger than I was expecting. I am able to vacuum the entire house before I have to empty it. It hasn't overheated, and I think the 20 foot cord is a good length. It is lightweight, and the floor tool is flat enough to fit under the couches. I love that I can adjust the suction with my thumb, and that it's on a continuum. It stores great. I would definitely recommend it....more info - Dirt Devil 082700 Vacuum
Although this vacuum has great suction, I do have some observations to make. First, if you have stairs, I don't recommend this one. It ends up falling down the stairs every time you move. It's too wide to sit on the wheels, and standing up, it is top heavy, so it tips over. The second thing is that the attachments are supposed to attach to the body and handle. If you try to do that, they fall off, or worse, break off. It may be a good concept, but in practice, it just doesn't work. Thirdly, the wand does not attach to the handle, and the attachments do not attach to the handle or wand. They just push on. When they decide to fall apart, watch out. When they hit your feet, it hurts!!! Now, here is the biggie. The fourth problem I found has to do with pet hair. If you use the beater brush attachment, and you have dogs or cats, you will only use it once, as the hair gets tangled around the beater bar and the wheels, rendering it useless, until you take it apart and pull all the hairs out. So you will probably end up using the other wide attachment. The fifth problem is that this attachment swivels in all different directions, but it doesn't return to center. Every time you hit a furniture leg, the attachment swivels. Now it doesn't sit flat on the floor, and you have to straighten it with your hand. If you have a temper, you will be taking this one apart, too, to fix it after you slam it on the floor a couple of times.
Again, I will say that it has great suction. The high pitched squeal seems to be common to this type of vacuum, and if you are close to the cleaner, it probably won't bother you, but other people tend to get very irritated with it.
It is evident to me that Dirt Devil built what they thought was a great vacuum, but they didn't bother to have it tested in the real world. Relying on their reputation, they get your money. Will I buy another Dirt Devil product? Not likely....more info - This vaccum looks great
I'd been looking for a light weight vaccum to pick up small messes and to do the car ect. For these projects it's great but if your looking to purchase a vaccum for everyday use on a carpet then buy something better like an up-right. The attachment for carpets on this vaccum is cheaply made and is not going to hold up to everyday use. ...more info - This model is junk!!
The first Dirt Devil 082700 Vision Turbo Canister Vacuum we received was defective. The replacement that we received was also defective. Would not recommend this unit at all. Amazon customer service was awful. It took many hours of phone time (7 calls) to get these items returned. ...more info - Good Suction Horrible Cord
The vacuum boasts an automatic cord retraction. I received this vacuum and plugged it in and was pleasantly surprised with the suction. Then i hit the cord retraction button only to find that it didn't retract. So now I was stuck with 20 feet of cord that wouldn't go back into the system. I contacted amazon and returned this product for the same vacuum, only to find that this cord didn't retract either. Overall I am very disappointed with this vacuum and have contacted dirt devil to find out why neither of these vacuums cords automatically retracted. The funny part about the whole thing is that the instructions tell you to hold the cord to avoid it from whipping back at you. ...more info - Dirt Devil vac
we purchased the vacuum based on previous reviews found online from other people who also purchased it. I think it's a really good quality product, bagless and light weight. Attachments are perfect for our new wood floors....more info - Not perfect but close
Disclaimer: This review is being written after the first day of use -- no representations on long-term reliability.
PROS (in the order that we noticed them): inexpensive -- particularly on Amazon, small, cute, lightweight, lots of attachments, easy to assemble, variable power control conveniently located on handle, quiet, excellent suction, clever pivoting head which follows contour of floor and baseboards, non-marring on hard wood floors, positive latching mechanism on dirt cup, auto-retractable cord.
CONS (in the order that we noticed them): attachments affix to wand and fall off, attachment mount on wand makes it difficult to slide wand under furniture, despite large wheels unit does not roll easily, dirt cup fills quickly.
We have mostly hardwood floors in our apartment and purchased the Dirt Devil after initially buying a Bissell upright for about the same price (big mistake). The difference between the two is like night and day. Every vacuum involves some compromises especially in this price range but the Vision is as close to perfect as we have seen....more info - Cheap build quality
This unit did a good job cleaning and the filter stayed relatively clean, but the overall build quality is not quite there. For instance, the power chord is supposed to recoil when pushing the handle or the button under the handle, it never worked. The release for the dirt container feels fairly flimsy. Ultimately I returned it because the power chord did not recoil and this defect is unacceptable for a unit that had literally just come out of the box. So an ok unit if you are looking for something moderately priced with decent performance but mediocre at best build quality....more info - Great for Hardwood Floors and Tile!
I bought this vacuum because I just moved into a house without carpet and I wanted a canister vacuum. I have also had really good luck with the Dirt Devil brand. This vacuum did not disappoint. It's so easy to use and it does a great job of cleaning my hardwood floors and my tile,. I also have persian rugs and it does a great job on them. The off/on/speed control is on the handle, so you don't have to lay down the hose to turn it off and on or change speeds. This vacuum is basically only found online, and I highly recommend going through Amazon. A great Buy!...more info
