Product Description

Laurie Berkner serves up a heaping helping of whacked-out, slaphappy lyrics and get-you-moving acoustic guitar licks. The littlest listeners will want to slip on their dancing shoes for such originals as the opening track, "We Are the Dinosaurs," on which a pack of prehistorics prance around, stopping only to eat their food when they're in the mood and take a rest over in their nest. The blues-soaked "I Know a Chicken" teeters on frenzied, shaky eggs and an over-the-top tempo, and the sweet, musically simple "123" tickles sentimental sides with its "koochie-koochie coo / I love you" refrain.

Besides her sure-footedness with her own songs, Berkner also nails a number of traditional tunes here, most notably "She'll Be Comin'' 'Round the Mountain," "ABCD Medley," on which she artfully melds the ABC song with "Row, Row, Row Your Boat," "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star," and "Wimoweh (The Lion Sleeps Tonight)," a gloriously kid-ified rendition of the already infectious original. Overall, this record reflects Berkner's knack for stacking on the fun. Best of all, because of its standout instrumentation, parents are apt to groove along ungrudgingly, thereby setting the stage for a squabble-free shared musical experience.

  • Whaddaya Think of That! LOVE IT!!
As always - Laurie produced another great cd!! My 2 year old loves this one the most!!...more info
  • Saved Our Vacation
We took our 1st vacation with our daughter not long after she was one. She would get fussy in the car after a short period of time but as long as we kept this CD playing she was fine. We may have heard We are the Dinosaurs one too many times but wouldn't trade this CD for anything. We've already stocked up on the rest of them for our next vacation coming up so we can rotate them around....more info
  • Laurie is the best
Anyone with a child under the age of 8 should have all the Laurie Berkner CD's. Her music is very creative, the kids LOVE it, and best of all it won't drive you crazy as the parent because it's not obnoxious!! ...more info
  • Wonderful CD for kids AND their parents!
Unleash the kid in you! It's impossible to keep yourself from singing (and stomping) along with "We are the Dinosaurs" after you've heard it a few times. We have played this CD over and over and over again for my 10-month old, and he has started a little boogie to "I Know a Chicken" when it gets to the fast parts. We are all totally addicted to this CD....more info
  • baby music
Great CD -- we heard it at storytime and my baby loved several of the songs on the CD. It's one of the few CDs for baby that I don't mind listening to 20 zillion times... which is what happens with my toddler! I even caught my picky husband singing the dino song with the baby. ...more info
  • great artist, great CD
My 2-year-old loves all of Laurie Berkner's CDs, and this is no exception. I particularly like the renditions of old favorites like "She'll Be Coming Round the Mountain" and "I Love My Rooster." My son seems to like the whole thing, with different favorite songs every day. Another terrific CD!...more info
  • The dinosaur song
I have been singing and marching to the song "We are the Dinosuars" with my 2year old Grandaughter for about three months.
When I saw that there was a CD with the actual song on it I had to get it for her(us). Now we get to hear the song seven to ten times in a row! The CD has many other great songs on it and hopefully my grandaughter will soon learn to love them as well.

  • Gets the little guys movin'
This CD has my 3 year old's favorite, "We are the dinosaurs", along with a number of oldies but goodies. The songs are very lively and encourage the kids to get on their feet and MOVE! I'd recommend this for any toddler and preschooler household....more info
  • Awesome, Awesome, Awesome!!!!!!!!
My 19 month old LOVES this CD, as do his parents!! It is fun and entertaining! He smiles whenever he hears the first few notes of the first song because he knows what is coming next! In between each song he says "more, more" -- he can't get enough! I HIGHLY recommend this CD!...more info
  • My 4-Year Old Loves this Music!
We heard Laurie Berkners songs on Noggin and just had to buy it. My 4-year old son just loves every song - he can sing most of them - and the silly, energetic music gets him dancing around the house. His favorite song is the Dinosaur March ... if your little guy is into Dino's ... this is a must have!...more info
  • Ali M
My 18 month old loves this CD and asks for it everyday by pointing to our CD player and saying, "'Saur! 'Saur!" for the first song on dinosaurs. He dances and bops around our living room - which is great exercise when it's cold out. I know all the songs by heart now, but as far as kid's music goes I do not find this to be too grating. We have just ordered another one of Berkner's CD's we liked this one so much. Ralph's World CD's are also favourites in our house....more info
  • Mommy! Mommy! Stomp Stomp?!?!
My daughter is only 19 months old and loves Laurie Berkner. We bought this and many other Laurie Berkner discs and my daughter just can't get enough. We listen to at least one or more of the discs everyday. She looks at me and says, "Mommy, Mommy" and then starts stopping her feet on the floor. That is my que to start singing the dinosaur song "Whaddaya Think of That?". All of the songs are great. They are very fun, playful, and interactive. Helping my daughter out with her motors skills and much more. I would recommend these to new Mom's, old Mom's, preschools, daycares, anywhere there are children. Highly recommended by "torri'smom". A + + + + ...more info
  • Relief to my ears!
As a music lover, it was pure torture to listen to children's music in the car. This CD changed all that. Gone are the corny singing voices and chimy music that plague most generic children's CDs. Laurie's pure, simple voice and guitar are welcome in my car anytime. My kids love it, and ask for the "dinosaur song" as soon as I start the car. My personal favorite is "I have a chicken". You can't go wrong. I prefer this CD over Victor Vito, but both are great....more info
  • Fun and crazy--we love it!!!
I stumbled across Victor Vito a few years ago in a store and bought it because it sounded fun. We INSTANTLY FELL IN LOVE WITH IT!!! I called everyone I knew with kids and told them they HAVE to get Laurie Berkner! Then a friend sent me Whaddya Think of That? and we're hooked--we now own all of her recordings. My baby used to go crazy and shake his rattle egg to "I Know a Chicken," and now at 2 1/2, can sing most of the songs on the CD. He loves the dinosaur song and stomps around the room singing the song. I love that Laurie is not over-commercialized--her songs are fun and energetic. Most importantly, it's fun for grown-ups as well as kids--I don't mind when my kid asks for it over and over--I sing along too!...more info
  • Great CD
We bought this CD for our son and niece for their birthdays this year after watching the videos on Noggin. The two of them loved to stomp around to "We Are the Dinosaurs", which isn't even the best song on here, which is saying something. These are different versions of songs we all know, and some really cool originals. The favorites in our house are "I Know a Chicken", "Down Down Baby", "The Cat Came Back", and "I Love My Rooster" (somehow an Octopus made its way into the song once it got here).
My niece is as enamored of the CD as my son is, but she's a Doodlebug fan, which is also my husbands favorite. Never having been a fan of Seinfeld (yes, she managed to work Seinfeld into a Children's song, folks, how's that for creative?) I just can't get into that one.
Probably shouldn't say this here, but after months of looking I finally located egg-shaped shakers/shakey eggs ("I Know a Chicken") at Kidsurplus.com for around $1. Before that I used Easter eggs from a dollar store with rice in them and taped up with packing tape because they were requested one afternoon. They didn't last too long and made a mess so now I have 4 shakey eggs, enough for all the kids who come over to boogie with the chicken. That song alone is reason enough to buy the CD.
Even if you aren't absolutely nuts about the CD on the first run through your child will be, and it will grow on you too....more info
  • A must have!
This CD as well as all of Laurie's CDs are excellent!! The songs are fun and my 2 1/2 year old just loves them. I also don't mind hearing them over and over like some of the other childrens music out there. Wonderful!!!...more info
  • We Love Laurie!
I purchased this CD after my daughter showed how much she LOVED the skits in between her favorite Noggin shows. Now everytime I play the songs, she sings, dances and does actions along with them, and runs to the TV and says she wants to see the lady. I also purchased Victor Vito, the title song is such a fun song. I plan to purchase the rest of her CDs, and I also saw that the song Victor Vito was made into a book, we have to get that also since she loves to read!!...more info
  • We parted with this with weeping and wailing
We borrowed this from the library after purchasing the other 3 Laurie Berkner CDs. Unfortunately I took my son with me to the library to return it...he had a total meltdown when we returned it! He begged me to check it out again and cried for 1/2 an hour, until I promised I'd find the CD and buy it.

That said, it is my least favorite of the Berkner CDs. I think it is the least polished and most eclectic. My son, however, apparently cannot live without the bluesy Chicken song, the meowing of "The Cat Came Back" and, of course, the beloved Dinosaur song. Overall, the songs are a pleasant break from typical kid-fare that make your brain feel as though someone has alternately stuck with an icepick and then poured lemonade in the wound tract. There are also plenty of songs, so you aren't listening for 20 minutes and back at the beginning.

This is going to join our other Berkner CDs, Ralph's World and world music classics in my son's CD holder....more info

  • Contagious! You'll be hooked
I can usually tolerate my kids music at best. But these little songs are just perfect for singing along. I've found myself singing them in my head while I'm at work. We've had this for a couple of weeks and my 3 year old already knows most of the words. This will be the gift I buy for all her little friends birthdays this year....more info
  • I Think It's Great!
I first became aware of Laurie Berkner's wonderful music through her appearances on Noggin (the Nick-affiliated children's cable station). My two-year old son loves these songs, and I do to. From the silly to the soulful, the folksy to the bluesy, the mundane to the sublime, Ms. Berkner sings about children's issues with wonderful energy and an unflagging musical sense. (Where else can you find an album that renders a contrapuntal treatment of the items in a Thanksgiving dinner menu?) Music to be enjoyed by adults and children alike....more info
  • You will find yourself singing the songs out load...
By yourself, in the shower, and in front of your friends. That can be good or bad depending on your company at the time. This is a MUST HAVE for the car, period. It is amazing how important music is to a baby in the car and it is equally as amazing how you can keep your sanity for the low cost of a music CD. Our baby boy started listening to this CD when he was a few weeks old and it still works like a charm (he is now a year and a half). Great gift idea for expecting parents! We have 3 of her CD's all are good, enough said?...more info
  • LOVE LOVE LOVE
This CD is my favorite! I bought it when my son was 1, and we both loved it. Then I lost it and bought it again and he loves it even more at 2. The songs are so cute, and easy to learn, with nice rhythms. I must have in your CD collection!!...more info
  • What a great CD!
My daughter LOVES Laurie Berkner. I bought her this CD and she cannot get enough of it. I also find that I am singing along with her and Laurie. It is such a fun CD and I recommend it to anyone who has kids. ...more info
  • !!
I was tired of cds of kid songs being performed by kids. In the car, the 102 kids songs by a choir of children who think they are God's gift to music all start sounding the same. I saw a commercial for Laurie on TV and wanted to try her out. I am SOOO happy I did. Her voice and musical talents are great. Also, she mixes songs that you already know with songs you've never heard before which is a nice change. But don't worry about some of the songs being new and that maybe you won't take to them.....they'll become your new favorites. You'll forget all about "I've been working on the railroad" and be all about "Buzz buzz buzz"ing!! I highly recommend! The whole family will love it or at least tolerate it (including dad!)...more info
  • Good CD
My little girl's school has this CD and recommended it to me. My daughter loves it! She especially loves the dinosaur song and the song about putting on your glasses and reading your book. We have it in the car and my daughter loves to listen to it when we are going to various places. It keeps her entertained and occupied....more info
  • What Do I Think? I Love IT!!
Laurie Berkner is the only "kids" singer I know that satisfies my whole family. My littlest are 3 and 4 and they know all the words to all her tunes. When my 19-year-old came home from college and was subjected to a prolonged car ride "with Laurie", she finally said, "Okay, she kinda grows on you." High praise indeed, from a teenager!

We loved this album and will keep on purchasing her work....more info
  • great sing-along video
Read about this singer in a magazine and decided to order one of her videos. After watching it two or three times my granddaughter can sing most of the songs and participate in the activities presented with the songs. She has a few favorites which she plays over and over again. Would reccomend for toddlers who like to sing and dance to songs....more info
  • I'd give her 10 stars if I could!
(**I am not writing the same thing over - I LOVE her and will write this on all the CD's that I got from her!!***)

My kids (and ME) LOVE Laurie Berkner, she is the best for kids music and we all dance to all the CD's that we have of hers (and trust me, we have quite a few!!) Get them all if you can - especially the DVD - her clothes are so colorful, they are very playful and my kids (and ME) LOVE LOVE LOVE HER!

A+ to Laurie Berkner and also The Laurie Berkner Band! I wish she'd go on tour, I'd be there in a heartbeat! It's great clean music for your kids - I take them on the field trips with the Kindergarten classes and all the kids sing along!

    A MUST HAVE!...more info
  • Very fun kids album that adults will like, too.
Laurie Berkner doesn't really have a dud (yet) in her catalog. So, if you like her (how can you not?) you will get them all. This CD has some of our favorites - "We are the Dinosaurs", "Doodlebugs", "I Know a Chicken", "I Have a Rooster" that are on many of Henry's (age 3) playlists.

The musicianship is first-rate, the enthusiasm infectious. Don't be dissuaded by those who will say, "it's _kids_ music, MY kids don't listen to that." That's silly -- this is not sappy junk -- it's good simple tunes that kids will love. Buy a guitar and learn to play them and sing along with you kid, they'll love it.

Now, don't get me wrong -- a steady diet of this (or anything) will drive you a bit crazy -- so mix it up! A est with "I Know a Chicken", followed by Lois Jourdan singing "Ain't Nobody Here but us Chickens", then Rufus Thomas's crazy funk/soul "Old MacDonald", etc., is the ticket....more info
  • Laurie Berkner is the best
Berkner manages to deliver a CD that I like to listen to even when my son isn't in the car with me. The music is a mix of styles and tempos and there's not a dud in the bunch....more info
